The last edition ended late at night with the victory of Zlatin Penev, more Italian than ever despite the name betraying his Bulgarian origins, who after a grueling battle managed to take home a €280,000 first coin.
It was 10 May, late spring in the splendid San Remo setting, and he was playing for a guaranteed jackpot of 1 million euros. It was punctually exceeded.
This time the scenario is different, we are in Liechtenstein, and the guaranteed prize is €500,000, but both the setting and the enthusiasm perceived in the room are certainly up to the standards of what was seen in Sanremo.
The numbers of this Day1 A, which put a 1K ticket up for grabs for the IPO Master scheduled for next week from 16 November, were encouraging to say the least: 152 single entries, topped by 72 re-entries, for a total of 224 entries and 43 qualified for Day 2 on Sunday.
The Top 5
The best of all today was Tommaso Stassi (photo below) with 729.000 chips, in his first time as chip leader at a Day1 in a tournament of this magnitude:
"The evening didn't start very well, with some tricky hands that caused me to lose a bit of stack. From then on I slowly climbed back up playing solid poker, picking the right hands and here I am!"
He was followed by another Italian, 'Ferrari', who managed to stuff a good 589,000 in the bag, about three times the tournament average (just under 200,000 chips).
In third place, on the other hand, we find the Swiss Marcus Schilling at 442,000, while the top 5 is closed by Albanian Dorjan Ushe (331,000) and Romanian Andrei Chiriliuc (328,000).
