🇮🇹 Massimo Schiralli wins ReMida Poker Team, 'Queen of Hearts' and 'Jokerstars' tied for first

Updated: Feb 27

Believe it or not, there are times when fate really does seem to make a mockery of free will. Now, to claim that Massimo Schiralli's success was written in stone somewhere would be nonsense, but the desire and determination he showed throughout the final table (and throughout the tournament in general) they're all true.

It was already clear in the 3-handed phase when, on the strength of his massive stack, he did not want to come to terms with those who advised him to call it quits by splitting for ICM and leaving the trophy in the hands of fate, or rather, of a single showdown.

Massimo wanted to play for the trophy, as did Davide Cojaniz, and monetary understanding aside, the 3 survivors fought it out for 4 hours before surrendering: "Get ready because we're playing here until the day after tomorrow if you want!" - announced Massimo at the beginning of 3-handed with 60 average blinds and the desire to eat his opponents.

The reason for his firmness was explained to us at the end of the tournament, with one of the two hands holding the trophy: "A few days ago I told a work colleague that I was going to play a poker tournament here in Nova Gorica. He is a very spiritual person and although he is not an expert in the game, he told me literally: 'I am trying to send you all the positive energy I can so that you win this tournament'.

His words struck me and for some strange reason, especially once I got here, I really wanted to raise the trophy to the sky and send him a nice picture saying 'did you see that? I won it for real!"

In addition to the good maximum, two equal teams triumphed, Carmine Masciale's 'Queen of Hearts' and Alija Beširević's 'Jokerstars', who shared €15,000 each. All the info though, complete with ranking, can be found further down the article.

Now it's time to leave aside the sophistry and devote ourselves to the bare facts, because there's an entire final table to relive!

The Final Table

After a good four hours of play, we finally have the names of the 10 finalists of the ReMida Poker Team!

Twenty-four players started today to compete for a place at the event's most prestigious table and now it's time to get serious: €30,000 for the winner and €35,000 (to be divided between the top 3 teams) for the team classification.

Remember that although the 10 survivors are all sitting around the same table, the official final table is composed of 9 players. A piece of information that probably won't change anything for those who follow us from home but that moves a lot for those in the running for the team prize as the 'magical 9' will accumulate more points than the other players who finished ITM.

Here is the situation at the start:

  1. Federico Guderzo 1,340,000

  2. Tim Gregorc 2,050,000

  3. Dean Cimera 1,350,000

  4. Massimo Schiralli 5,545,000

  5. Andrea Mainetto 2,490,000

  6. Carmine Masciale 6,705,000

  7. Jernej Škorjanc 2,425,000

  8. Pasquale Mancini 4,470,000

  9. Davide Cojaniz 6,000,000

  10. Choi Kyung Ok 1,315,000

Dean Cimera is the10th-place finisher

Blinds 40K/80K, ante 80K

With about 10 blinds left, Cimera decided to go all-in with A-J finding Jernej Škorjanc's isolation-raise with A-Q, and the blinds passed.

The board gave no surprises and Cimera had to be content with 10th place and €2,000 prize.

Andrea Mainetto gets out in 9th place

Blinds 40K/80K, ante 80K

With 15 actual blinds, Mainetto decides to shovate on Jernej Škorjanc's open, who after some thought decides to put his chips in the middle with J-J, finding A-K in his opponent's hand.

BOARD: J♦️ A♠️ 2♣️ 6♦️ K♦️

Mainetto cashes out the €2,450 reserved for the 9th place finisher with a bit of bitterness at the sight of Ace and Kappa on the board, which can do nothing against the opponent's Set of Jacks who flies into the Top 3 of the count.

Tim Gregorc eliminated in 8th position

Blinds 50K/100K, ante 100K

Gregorc's open-shove for about 8 blinds with A♠️ 10♠️, Davide Cojaniz strong on his stack just cold-call with A♦️ J♠️, the blinds pass and it goes to showdown.

BOARD: 5 ♥️ 3♠️ J♣️ Q♠️ 4♥️

Despite a sweaty finish, Cojaniz managed to elbow out Gregorc and take the lead in the count while his opponent finished eighth for €3,000 in prize money.

Choi Kyung Ok is the seventh runner-up

Blinds 50K/100K, ante 100K

An elimination with some regrets for Choi who a few hands earlier found the strength to pass Q-Q preflop on Masciale's 3-bet after opening with about 20 blinds (Carmine would show A-Ko).

The key spot comes when the stack is no more than 10 blinds: Choi goes all-in with A-5 and from the BB Jernej Škorjanc calls with 7-7.

BOARD: A-5-8-7-J

Despite the Double Pair on the flop Choi is forced to leave the table because of the Set hit on the Turn by her opponent, who remains the best mao on the river as well. Choi Kyung Ok cashes for €3,500.

Dinner Break!

Blinds 50K/100K, ante 100

The 6 finalists are on break for an hour. Here are the stacks at the moment:

  1. Jernej Škorjanc 10.6M

  2. Davide Cojaniz 6.5M

  3. Massimo Schiralli 6.4M

  4. Carmine Masciale 5.4M

  5. Pasquale Mancini 3M

  6. Federico Guderzo 2.1M

Federico Guderzo out in 6th place

Blinds 50K/100K, ante 100K

Guderzo from the SB decides to limp-shove with K-9 on Massimo Schiralli's isolation raise, putting his 18 big blind in the middle. Massimo, however, has K-K in his hand and doesn't take too long to call. Smooth board and Guderzo wins the €4,200 reserved for 6th.

Pasquale Mancini ends up fifth

Blinds 60K/120K, ante 120K

Left with 14 blinds, Mancini decided to open-shove K♦️ 9♦️ from UTG finding Massimo Schiralli's re-shove from BTN with A♥️ K♣️, the blinds folded and it's showdown time.

BOARD: 5♣️ 7♠️ A♦️ 6♠️ Q♠️

Schiralli shoots to the head of the count and Mancini, a little disconsolate, goes to collect the €5,300 prize destined for the 5th place finisher.

Carmine Masciale is the 4th-place finisher

Blinds 60K/120K, ante 120K

Carmine Masciale opens with A♥️ Q♣️ from BTN and Davide Cojaniz defends with J♥️ 3♥️ from BB. On the flop 2♥️ 6♥️ 7 ♣️ Cojaniz check-raises his opponent's c-bet who goes all-in for about 18 BB total. Davide thinks about it but in the end, he can't help but call and the cards are turned over.

TURN: 10♦️

RIVER: J♠️

Cojaniz wins the pot and Carmine takes home €7,500. The three survivors now discuss a deal for ICM.

3-handed after deal

Blinds 100K/200K, ante 200K

The three survivors, with rather similar stacks, decided to split by ICM leaving €5,000 for the winner.

In the meantime, we can finally announce the results of the team ranking:

  1. Jokerstars 70

  2. Queen Of Hearts 70

  3. PokerCode3 65

  4. Senka's Team 65

Davide went all-in with A-5 from BTN and was called by Jernej Škorjanc with 7-7, the board was no surprise and Cojaniz finished third for €18,500 after the deal.

Schiralli and Škorjanc play for the trophy.
