Entries 137/Left 22
Day 1D of The Warriors' Main Event has just concluded here at the GC Poker Room in Bendern, Liechtenstein. There were 137 entries, and 22 players advanced to Day 2 on Sunday.
The best performance of the day goes to the Iranian (though he plays under the Swiss flag as he has been residing here for over ten years) Pedram Khodaparast (pic below), who managed to bag 727,000 chips. Here are his statements at the end of the day.
"My tournament didn't start too well, and I managed to build my stack very, very slowly. The bulk of it came in the last two hours. There was a key hand where I made trips with 8-9 on a K-8-8 board while my opponent had Aces.
After c-betting the flop and calling my raise, he went all-in on the turn, making it an easy call for me. Thanks to this spot, I managed to reach about 600,000, but I didn't think I would win the chip leader prize because there was someone at another table with over 800,000, so my expectations were very low.
However, as the tournament progressed, things changed, and in the end, I managed to edge out the chip leader by a handful of big blinds. I am thrilled with the result. I actually only play high-stakes cash games and started playing tournaments just a year ago. I will definitely go to Las Vegas in December to play in the WPT Championship, and I hope for the best!"
The Top 5
Looking at the other positions in the Top 5, we find Sinisa Bodrozic from Croatia in second place with 655,000 chips, followed by Swiss Nicolas Pascal Schnoz with 480,000.
Completing the Top 5 are Stonewall Jackson from Germany with 470,000 and another Swiss player, Antonio Chiafala, with 465,000. Below is the chip count with all the qualifiers to Day 2 from Day 1D.
