The first of the two scheduled flights at King’s Resort in Rozvadov concluded just after 11:00 PM. It was part of the CNP Main Event, which has a guaranteed prize pool of one million euros. An impressive 739 entries were received today, and another 75 players will advance to Day 2 tomorrow.
Finally, leading the group, considering the tournament is “made in Spain,” was a Spaniard, Joel Selles Meijer, who ended the day with an impressive stack of 1,360,000 chips. Here are his thoughts right after the game.
"It has been quite an interesting day from my perspective, as everything went pretty smoothly. I do play professionally, or at least I try. It’s always challenging, I would say, to be a professional in this world.
As for today, the key spot was when I found myself in the big blind with pocket Aces, and two players before me went all-in, one after the other, which made me laugh.
I put my chips in the middle and won the pot, bringing my stack to around 400,000. At that stage of the tournament, having a big stack allowed me to adopt a much more aggressive strategy than I would have with a smaller stack.
No, of course, this isn’t the first time I’ve finished as the chip leader in a tournament. The last time it happened was in Alicante, and I ended up winning. Who knows, there are many more entries here as that other tournament was a high roller."
The Top 5
Today’s Top 5, in addition to the already mentioned chip leader, includes Viorel Gabriel Gavrila from Romania, who has 1,209,000, followed by Polish player Sylwester Slawomir Fortuna (1,068,000).
