The curtain falls on the third act of the EPM 2Million, which, after a battle lasting about 11 hours, leads 31 players to today’s Final Day at 1:00 PM. Since the day ended in the middle of the 31st level of play, the game will resume for the first 40 minutes at the same level as last night.
Dutch player Mateusz Moolhuizen (pictured below), a regular in both online and live tournaments, has strongly bid for a spot at the final table. His incredible run allowed him to bag a stack four times the tournament’s average. Here’s what he told us in an interview right after:
“I started with 3.4 million, more than 10x the average. In a nutshell, I dropped down to 1.5 million and then managed to climb back up by grinding out small pots. The most important hand? I played so many! I think it was when I 3-bet A-A from the BB against the CO. He jammed for 10 million, and at that moment, I already had 20…
With that stack, it was easier to keep winning several pots without showdown, although, of course, the run always helps, and everything went smoothly. To be honest, it cost me 6 bullets to get this far, but it was worth it!
It was probably my career's most intense live grinding session because I played 16 hours a day over the last five days trying to make it to Day 2. Now, I’m obviously in a fantastic position.
Playing 80-minute levels? Fantastic, it’s the reason I came. If the levels had been 40 minutes, I would have stayed home. I love playing tournaments with such slow structures where you can really play poker: there’s more time to avoid high variance spots and to make some moves.”
The Top 5
Reviewing the other top 4 positions, we find the German Florian Prasanna Gunasekera with 27,050,000, followed by Romanian Adrian Cazacu (22,850,000).
