Entries 4679/ Left 48
Another chapter has been written: 4,679 entries constitute the highest number ever recorded at the France Poker Festival and, as happens in these cases, we feel we have to open with a THANK YOU to all of you who are reading us right now and who, above all, follow us around Europe in such large numbers.
The €500,000 prize pool was amply exceeded thanks to the €733,433 collected (including 6 tickets for the WSOPE Main Event worth €10,000). Tomorrow, 48 will return to the tables for the Final Day, hoping to get their hands on the trophy and the €100,000 first prize.
The fight for first place in the count, albeit indirect since the two protagonists were playing on different tables, was rather tight, with Andrei Piatrushchanka largely in the lead in the last levels of play and overtaken by Armenia's Valerik Malkhasian (photo above) at the photo finish:
"I'm thrilled, I didn't think I was the chip leader" - comments Valerik, who had actually glanced at the stack of Andrei Piatrushchanka (photo below) at the next table and realized he had a lot less.
The Belarusian has been involved in an insane 3-way showdown in which he found himself with 9-9 against 4-4 and K-K for a pot of around 13.5 million chips when the average tournament was around 3.5 million.
No surprises on the board until the turn, then a 9 river that sends him to heaven and sinks his opponent, the undisputed chip leader up to that point, down to 3 million. At the end of the day, Piatrushchanka took home a stack of 9,545,000, a handful of blinds shorter than Malkhasian with 9,900,000.
Third place in the count, with 8,860,000 there's the Spaniard Manuel Garcia Gonzalez (pictured above), who was at the table with Andrei Piatrushchanka after the last redraw and protagonist, together with the Belarusian, of some interesting spots.
The Top 5 is completed by the second Armenian in the ranking, Waagn Kaplanjan, who can boast 7,900,000 chips this afternoon, against the 7,585,000 of Portuguese Hugo Aca Lopes Enes Franco, fifth in the provisional count.
Six Frenchmen and five Italians still remain in the race: Sylvain Chaumy (7,420,000) and Antonio De Lucia (7,060,000) were the best exponents of their respective nations, occupying sixth and seventh positions in the count respectively. The list of 48 finalists in the France Poker Festival Main Event follows.
