Entries 149/ Left 23
Here we are to tell you another chapter of a tournament that has made history in Italian poker: the Italian Poker Open, with a guaranteed prize pool of €500,000, taking place at the Perla Resort in Nova Gorica from September 11 to 16, 2024.
The remaining players battled until 4:30 in the morning, for a total of eleven straight hours of play. By the time the bags were sealed, 23 players had qualified for the next step out of 149 entries, scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
The best player of the day was a well-known regular in these parts, Slovenian Jernej Skorjanc (bottom right), who managed to end the day with 583,000 chips, closely followed by Croatian Mario Galič (bottom left) with 530,000. The latter shared his thoughts with us at the end of the day:
“Honestly, I was short-stacked for most of the tournament, and only in the last few levels did I see some hands and manage to build a nice stack. The biggest pot was against Federico Cirillo; I opened with A-K at 4K blinds, seat 9 flatted, and seat 1 3-bet, I called.
The flop came Ace High, and I could extract value by check-calling on all three streets. From then on, everything got easier.”
The Top 5
As for the other top performances of the day, excluding the two mentioned above, we find Italian Lorenzo Acampora in third place with 445,000. Lorenzo made a cinematic hero-call after more than 3 minutes “in the tank” against Federico Cirillo, which we covered on our blog (CLICK HERE to check the action).
Rounding out the Top 5 are Lenac Drazen with 427,000 and Marian Adrian Serban with 404,000. You can find the complete list of all the other qualifiers below, with tables and seats already assigned for Day 2 on Sunday.
