Entries 552 / Left 57
It was quite an intense day for the players on Day1E, the first of two flights with 40-minute levels played so far, with 412 individual players crowding the main room. Adding in the re-entries, the entry count rises to 552, the highest so far, although more than a hundred fewer than on the same Day of the record edition.
The total number of entrants considering the first five flights therefore rises to 1,134, exactly 222 fewer entries compared to the 1,356 in February. The count of players sure to find a place at Day2, on the other hand, rises to 129. And now let's read the impressions of the day's chipleader, Austrian Andreas Mages, as well as the leader of the overall ranking given his 1,970,000 stack at the end of the Day.
"It was a fantastic day for me, I had a good run, and above all I found opponents who were very generous to me, who gave me some nice gifts. Look,' says Andreas pointing to the dozen stacks of twenty in front of him, 'half of them I earned, the other half are gifts!
I don't know if I've ever finished as chip leader at a Day 1, but it's certainly the first time that's happened here at King's. Hopefully, I'll do just as well on Day 2!"
The Top 5
The second-place finisher in this Day1 E is a long way off, even though for the first time the entire Top 5 has reached (or exceeded) the million chip threshold: it is the Swiss Thomas Hofmann with 1,083,000.
Third and fourth place went to two Italians, Domenico Zappia and Francesco Esposito with 1,035,000 and 1,004,000 respectively. Romanian "Mercury" closes the Top 5 at 1 million split. A total of 14 Italians qualified through Day1 E.
