🇱🇹 Ruslan Vlasov bosses Day1 D of the IPO

entries 354/left 77

It's starting to get serious here in Sanremo with the fourth flight of the Italian Poker Open which sends 77 players to Day 2, scheduled for Sunday 7 May.

The total number of entries was 354 and the Lithuanian 🇱🇹 Ruslan Vlasov showed his poker skills, amassing 774,000 chips, the equivalent of 154 big blinds when play resumed.

Day1D chipleader, Ruslan Vlasov.

The weight of the stack

"The tournament went very well" said the Lithuanian, "not least because the table was quite passive and I managed to put the right amount of pressure on myself, especially after I hit a nice triple-up with a flush against two opponents who both had a Double Pair.

From that moment on I managed to impose myself and the excellent structure of the tournament certainly helped. Only on one occasion did I drop below 100 big blinds, when I lost almost half a stack with a Set against a Straight, but after that I simply kept winning small pots.

The run helped me in the showdowns against the shorter stacks, who were forced to go all-in towards the end of the day in an attempt to double up."

The second and third rungs of the podium belonged to Frenchman 🇫🇷 Jean Pierre Gleize (pictured below), who will take the Day2 dowry to the tune of 704,000 chips, followed by England's 🇬🇧 Gary Phillips at 554,000.

"It had been over a year since I'd played" said the Frenchman, second in the count, "and I stuck to my strategy by attacking on every shot.

I must admit that I was also quite lucky, especially in one showdown where I found myself playing with J-10 against my opponent's K-J, taking a nice 10 on the river.

The stack helped me keep an aggressive strategy and here I am!"

Il resto della truppa

Sergio Castelluccio (238,000), Federico Anselmi (226,000), Simone Miracoli (79,000) and Francesco Elefante (220,000) also advanced to the next day.

Nothing to do instead for Davide Nutarelli, the evergreen Dario Minieri, Giuseppe Ruocco, Salvatore Saracino, Claudio Di Giacomo, and Andrea Shehadeh, the latter the protagonist of a nice up and down as he told us immediately after his elimination:

"The tournament was off to a great start, after just a few levels I had over 100 big blinds to T2000.... Then what wasn't supposed to happen happened, or rather, what often happens in these tournaments where a lot of multi-way pots are played with 3, 4 or more players at the table."

Two unlucky showdowns for Andreino who saw his stack end up on the other side of the table in rather shambolic dynamics. He will certainly try again today as will the others above.
