Entries 107/ Left 23

The third flight scheduled for this poker weekend here at Casino Velden for the Shark Bay Main Event with a €200,000 guarantee has concluded, with 23 players qualifying for Day 2 out of 107 entries today, including re-entries.

As we write, the second of today’s two flights, Day 1D, is currently in progress and has reached the ninth level of play. The standout player of the day is a Spaniard, Juan Velasco, who came specifically to play in this tournament, as he shared in the interview below:

“I came from Spain specifically to play this tournament; I had a free weekend, and I thought, why not… Am I a professional? No, although I regularly play on the Spanish circuit, a bit less internationally.

After a rather promising start that took me to nearly 150,000, I lost a bad hand that cost me three-quarters of my stack. From that moment, I started a slow climb back until level 8, where I worked my way into the higher parts of the chip count.

The key hand? It was two pair against two pair—I had A-Q and hit my pair on the flop. We both ended up all-in, and I won a very important pot. Tomorrow is going to be fun with this stack!”

The Top 5

Looking at the Top five, we see that besides Juan Velasco, with 630,000 chips, there are four Austrians. The first is Franz Dobler-Kreibisch, with 576,000, followed by Gabriele Jahn, with 510,000.

The Top 5 is completed by Jan Ruppnig with 433,000 and Kurt Widmann with 413,000. Next, you’ll find the complete list of all 23 qualifiers from Day 1C. To recap what happened throughout the day, simply click THIS LINK for the live blog!
